The objective of this post is the assembling of structural vehicle components using high heat equipment and various welding techniques. This role is also responsible for the repair and reshaping of damaged vehicles bodies.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Join metal vehicle components using welding methods such as MIG, TIG, Stick, or Arc welding.
- Ensure welds meet design specifications and industry standards.
- Operate and maintain welding equipment, tools, and machinery.
- Inspect and set up welding machines for optimal performance.
- Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning, grinding, or cutting before welding.
- Align and secure parts using clamps, fixtures, or welding jigs.
- Complete all repairs within the estimated time frame, aiming for a 90% on-time completion rate to reduce customer wait times.
- Inspect completed welds for defects like cracks, porosity, or undercuts.
- Straighten, reshape or replace panels and vehicle body parts using hammers, dollies and hydraulic tools.
- Maintain a customer (donor and partners) satisfaction rating of 95% or higher by providing high-quality service, clear communication, and timely follow-ups.
- Ensure all repairs are completed with zero comebacks or complaints related to workmanship within 30 days of service.
- Maintain all tools and equipment in good working order, with no more than 5% downtime due to equipment failure.
- Optimize parts usage to reduce waste and control costs, ensuring that parts are ordered and used as needed without excess.
- Maintain a zero-incident safety record by following all safety protocols and guidelines during repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Properly dispose of hazardous materials (e.g., oil, batteries, tires) in accordance with environmental regulations, ensuring 100% compliance.
- Displayed effort in improving time management, reducing downtime, and completing more jobs per day.
- Reduce repair costs through efficient use of resources, accurate diagnostics, and avoiding unnecessary parts replacement.
- Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer warranty requirements, with zero incidents of warranty claims being denied due to improper service.
Requirements
- Minimum of a relevant trade qualification in welding, fabrication and panel beating
- Relevant 5 years’ experience in fabrication and panel beating
- Welding certification is an added advantage
